COURSE TITLE – A FORENSIC DENTAL SAFARI OF INTERESTING AND DIFFICULT CASES
DESCRIPTION – Movies, TV and novels sensationalize criminal investigations and occasionally give a shout out to the Forensic Dentist to solve cases. In real life, Forensic Odontologists are important members of the forensic team, charged with making identifications of decedents and analyzing bite marks and their link to alleged perpetrators.
The first part of the presentation shows how a dentist trained in forensics makes these determinations.
Part two presents challenging and high profile cases.
Part three introduces the study of bite marks
BIO – Dr. Bernstein is Professor of Pathology and Oral Pathology at University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Odontology and has been the forensic dental consultant for the Kentucky Medical Examiner since 1979. Dr. Bernstein has performed over 500 identification cases and was Team Leader of the Dental Forensic Unit for the Carrollton Bus Crash and the crash of Comair fight 5191 in Lexington.
